Summary of George Edward Taylor

Taylor was born to a slave father and a free mother. He worked as a newspaper reporter and eventually editor. for the La Crosse Evening Star.  He was involved with the National Nergo party, also known as the National Liberty Party. In 1904 he became the first African American to run for president.

Summary of Kamala Harris

 Harris is the daughter of a Jamaican professor and an Indian cancer researcher. She has a B.A in political science and economics, as well as a law degree. She worked as a deputy attorney from 1990 to 1998 in Oakland. In 2013 she nominated for attorney general of Californa becoming the first women and African American to hold the position. Her memoir The Truths We Hold: An American Journey was published in January 2019. She tried to run for president in 2020 but her campaign ran out of money. In August she was nominated as Joe Biden's vice president.

Similarities

The two were nominated at a time where civil rights were at the forefront of the political climate. Talyor was nominated just as African Americans were being freed from slavery and getting rights, it had only been forty years since the 13th amendment had ratified. Which may be a lot, but on the scale of things, it isn't. Kamala Harris was nominated right of the heels of protest over police brutality and debates of civil rights. 

Differences

Taylor was nominated when African Americans had very little ability to make it American society. Discrimination was rampant and the beginning of Jim Crow laws was beginning to take place. Harris, while facing discrimination was able to go to college and take jobs without being forced to only attend a black only college or work for a black-only career. She had the ability to pick what she wanted to do, with was not always an option.

Introduction

 We've all heard the same when a new product comes out. "This burger is the new Big Mac." "This horror movie is the new Psycho." The product usually never makes it as popular as the item it's compared to but in music one compassion keeps coming up. Saying that BTS is the new Beatles. Education Fact

Some people don't graduate in four years for several reasons. It can be poverty causing them only to afford so many years, people finding other jobs that don't require employment, or they fail out of college.   Students have access to finical aid but don't cover everything. There is a gap not covered by aid or the family's help if they can afford it. Adddintonly studies have shown that poverty in any stage in education has effects in later stages.   Students how grew in poverty tend to behind before they begin school . It is considered very difficult to break the effect of poverty. Some students can find jobs in college that pay well enough and are secure enough that they no longer need college. Some students that work while in school may find jobs in their fields that don't require a degree, and they have the experience needed to apply.
